Damn power outages

Shoot. I just wrote this nice post about me and my son. As I was writing it this red message kept appearing on the bottom, "Cannot contact blogger. Cannot Save." No big deal, I thought. It'll save eventually. Then, just as I finished and was getting ready to click the publish button, the power went off for all but five seconds. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

We'll try again tomorrow

Looking forward to your post.

When you write a post in Blogger, doesn't it save drafts of them before you post? There's a blue button next to the orange publish button that lets you manually save drafts in progress.

Sorry to hear about the lost post.

As someone who's been involved with personal computing since 1982, a piece of advice: Save early and often, and avoid the last-minute heartbreak.

If you're in an area subject to brownouts or outages, you can cover yourself by typing your posts into Notepad or other simple text editor, saving to disk every few minutes or pragraphs. Then, when your post is ready to publish, cut and paste it into Blogger.

If you want to do HTML or other formatting without having to type all the code in every time, you can use a desktop blogging client such as (my personal favorite) wBloggar. It's donationware designed to do just that, and it's terrific.

Freadom,

Thanks for the compliment. I figured it was time for an upgrade.

Oh, and because I'm a student of journalism, I will wholeheartedly agree with what SWA said. Good tips indeed. Save early and often.
