Burqa ban example of fading Western Freedoms

Here's an idea I had never thought of before, and perhaps you neither. What is freedom?

Well, I know what you're thinking. Freedom is the ability to do what you want when you want, so long as you don't infringe upon the rights of others.

Yet that is only the West definition of Freedom. That is the Christian definition of Freedom. The Muslim definition of Freedom is very different.

According to Andrew McCarthy of NationalReview.com, "There Oughtn’t Be a Law: The burqa ban won’t save France, and preemptive capitulation won’t save us," freedom is " perfect submission to Allah."

So when women by Muslim order wear burquas to cover their face as to not allow men to be tempted to do something he shouldn't, they are doing it willingly and to get to Allah's Heaven.

Yet some women do not don the burqa by choice, they don it only because they are forced to do so by Muslim society. For these, there is no choice, and no freedom any way you look at it.

McCarthy notes it was these "few" who do not choose to wear the burqa by choice that it made the decision to make it not a choice not to wear a burqa, but a law. It's another attempt by the progressive left to tell people what they have to do. It's another attempt by the left to take away another true freedom: the freedom of women in France to wear a burqa if they want.

That's something the left doesn't realize, is that every time they make a low, they are really taking away more freedoms.

The truth is, as McCarthy writes, "This is a social problem, not a legal one. Law is the steel by which a body politic reinforces its vibrant, pre-existing mores. It is not a device for creating mores or for bringing to heel those who are at war with the body politic. Indeed, for Islamists seeking to destroy the West, the law is a weapon in their arsenal — the device by which they hamstring a self-consciously law-worshipping society. For a dying society, though, a law, like the burqa law, is about as useful as a band-aid."

He also adds that, "They (French progressive lawmkers) are culturally confident. We, on the other hand, are ambivalent about whether our culture deserves to survive. No law can solve that problem."

Yes, the West is the embodiment of freedom. It is freedom that Muslim radicals hate, and Freedom of Wester society that has empowered terrorists to do what they do.

Yet we have the French, and progerssives in the U.S. too, making laws because they think they know what's best for everyone, that take freedoms away. To me this is the kind of irony that destroys nations, and empowers those who are seeking to destroy the West.
