More regulations not the answer

On "The view" right now the girls are discussing BP and what can be done to prevent such an oil spill as that of which is occurring the the Gulf Coast from occurring again. Whoopie said more regulations are needed, and that conservative girl said regulations are fine but not so many that the government is running the company.

So, who is right? Actually, I think Whoopie is way off. You have to think of regulations as rules. The more rules you have the harder they are to enforce. Likewise, as you have too many rules, it's impossible to follow some of them. And big businesses like BP know this, and therefore they find ways to skirt them.

I can use myself as a perfect example. I have a bunch of rules I have for my children to abide by. One of the rules is wearing a helmet while riding a bike, and another is to look both ways before crossing the road, and another is to not talk back, and another is...

Well, you get the picture. For their safety, we parents come up with lots of rules. Yet, there comes a time when you are working so hard to get your child to obey one rule that it becomes necessary to forgo another. For example, my daughter threw a fit the other day at the park, and she was refusing to get back on her bike if she had to wear a helmet.

She said, "I never fall off my bike anyway. So why do I have to wear this stupid thing?"

To get her to cooperate, I decided to let her not wear the helmet. My point here is not to make myself look like a bad parent, but to make the point that sometimes you have to let one rule slide in order to get people to cooperate. And you can't tell me inspectors do the same thing, or say something like, "Oh, there hasn't been a leak in 20 years, so we'll just let this go by."

Too many rules to enforce makes this a lot more likely to happen. Too many rules to enforce make it a lot harder to abide by them.

Likewise, history has proven that the more regulations on a particular industry the greater the likelihood that smaller corporations and businesses cannot afford the regulations, and go out of business.

So then you have only large corporations left, like B.P. With little competition left, corporations like B.P. have to spend less money on competition, so they have more money left over to fund lobbyists, and to make campaign contributions, all in an attempt to control Washington and to make sure no laws are made to increase competition.

Thus, the irony of "more regulations" as Whoopie would have it is the more regulations you have on an industry, the more control that industry has on Washington. In this way, Washington and that Industry become one. Which, ultimately, is the goal of Progressivism, to control industry.

Also, consider that it's because of regulations that we can't drill in the Florida Tundra; regulations that say we can't dig new coal mines; regulations that we can't build new oil refineries; regulations we can't build new nucular power plants; and therefore regulations that force oil to drill off the gulf coast so deep we can't get to the spill to plug it up.

Plus BP had plans to use chemicals to get rid of oil, and to burn it, before it got out of reach of the well, but environmental regulations prevented this action too. There's so many regulations you can't prevent and you can't treat.

I thought it was ironic today that Obama said the following: America deserves an answer. What happened in Gulf may be the result of human error, and it may be the result of error on the part of BP. Either way, America deserves an answer.

Obama is right, except for one thing: he failed to mention the government as a possible cause.

So this is exactly the problem as I see it. I could be wrong. I might be completely wrong, yet I don't see how more regulations are going to work. What we need to do is have few regulations -- few rules -- and enforce then wholeheartedly.

The same in the home. While there are a lot of rules to run a home, I tend to just have a few that I consider nuclear laws, and I enforce them tooth and nail. You can have a lot of freedom in my home, yet if you break these nuclear laws you will be punished wholeheartedly and appropriately.

The same needs to be done in Washington.

You know, the irony of this is that when it comes to Immigration progressives are the exact opposite: they want fewer regulations. They want poor immigrants to come into this country, and to take advantage of U.S. welfare programs because then they'll tend to vote democrat.

So, when something works in the favor of progressives, they don't want more regulations. As we know, the U.S. government immigration policy is much tougher than the recent Arizona policy. Yet the Arizona policy encourages enforcement of current immigration laws, while the federal government enforces little.

Why is that? Because there are too many rules. It comes full circle. Too many regulations make industries worse, not better. Worded another way: regulations are meant to control industry, yet history has shown regulations on industry encourage industry to control Washington.

Ironic isn't it. Your thoughts?

Arizona immigration law fair?

If you're an illegal alien in Arizona you better watch out, because if you are pulled over for speeding, or if you break the law, or you look suspicious, you are going to be found out and sent back to your own country.

It didn't have to be this way. If the Federal government did it's job and enforced the laws on hand, Arizona wouldn't have had to make this law. When Obama called it "uncalled for" and "irrational," he is basically saying Arizona doesn't have the sovereign right to make it's own laws, of which the 10th amendment allows it to.

The state of Arizona has to spend millions, if not billions, of dollars educating, feeding, providing health care, etc. to the thousands of people that are in that state illegally. Those people do not provide much to the tax roll, and therefore should not be receiving such benefits.

The funny thing is, 70% of the people of Arizona wanted this law, including most Mexican born people who are here legally. They came over here by legal means, why should all these illegal immigrants have the same privelidges as they do? How American is that?

On the flipside, I certainly wouldn't want someone pulling me over just to see my driverse license. Half the time I don't even have it on me. So if that's what the result of this law is, then I'm against it.

Yet, pull me over for something else, and you have every right to make sure I'm not a felon, or an illegal alien. That's fair.

Securing our borders should be top priority

It is a sham that neither the republican nor the democratic party has done anything about the illegal immigration problem this country faces, or at a minimun put an end to the number of illegal immigrants coming into the country.

If we had a president, or a congress for that matter, who cared about the American people rather than big business, our border would have been sealed immediately following 9-11. With the fear of another terrorist attack, and the knowledge that a majority of the 9-11 hijackers were illegal imigrants who planned within the U.S. borders, the public support for such a plan would have been undaunted.

We here at Freadom Nation were, as were most Americans, happy when the debate over S. 1348, the infamous immigration bill that would have granted amnesty to 8 or 12 million illegal immigrants, went down in smoke. And we pray that nothing like this is proposed again by Congress nor our next president.

We think it is unfair that illegal immigrants have access to free public education, while driving up the cost of that education for regular Americans. We think it's unfair that illegal aliens, in some states, have access to college at the same cost of in-state residents, while legal residents in the rest of the country have to pay extra.

We think it is unfair that illegal aliens have access to free healthcare, while legal citizens and legal aliens have the burden of paying for them. This not only drives up the cost of medicine, but it overwhelms many of our hospitals on the Mexican border.

We think it is unfair that illegal aliens are being able to obtain drivers lisences and to vote in some states, while legal residents who break our laws are not provided these privelages.

We a major problem that illegal and legal aliens are not encouraged to assimilate, and to learn the English language. English is the language of success, and by not forcing these people not to learn English we are forever trapping these people in low paying jobs.

And, while legal U.S. residents are pulled over and are documented as breaking U.S. laws, they are placed under arrest and dealt with accordingly. Illegal immigrants are set free and allowed to go back into hiding. Current laws regarding illegal immigration are regularly ignored, while laws regarding legal citicens who break the law are enforced.

We don't even know how many illegal aliens there are. The statistics say it's about 40 million, but they are in hiding, so how do we know if it's not really 8 million, 12 million or 500 million for that matter. The truh is: we don't.

Why do we tolerate this? The reason is because our past 5 or 6 presidents, past republican and democratic members of Congress and the Senate, are afraid of losing the Mexican-American vote. Not only that, they are afraid of losing money from Big Business lobbyists who champion for amnesty so they can have cheap labor because, "they do the jobs that no legal Americans would do because the jobs are too low class and too low paying"

That's absolutely not true, According to Lou Dobbs in his book "War on the Middle Class". Americans, if paid enough, have been willing to do just about any job, he writes, especially if that's what they need to do to support their families.

Just look at the coal miners for example. That's one of the most dangerous jobs in the U.S., but people continue volunteer to do this work.

If illegal immigrants were not taking up low-class laborious jobs, Dobbs writes, the Businesses would be forced to raise pay for these jobs, and Americans would suck them up. Studies show that this would not force a majority of these businesses to go out of business. Rather, it would force them to eat the extra profit they now earn to the benefit of middle class America

I could go on, but I'll stop there. You can read the rest of the statistics of how illegal aliens are bad for the nation on your own. There are so many reasons illegal immigration is bad entire books have been written on the subject.

Regardless, I did my research, mulled it over, and I’ve decided: They broke the law. It’s that simple. End of discussion. Any idea of granting them amnesty is an absolutely proposterous idea. Amnesty is an idea that has failed every time it's been tried, and it's something we shouldn't even be talking about.

What we need to do is, in one way or another, seal the border.

As it stands right now, America’s immigration program is an anarchist program. This is not good, because a serious crime is going unpunished, and America as a whole is suffering as a result.

Yes, illegal immigration is effecting the wallets of every day working Americans, and is taking a toll on our economy. More important than that, however, is how easy it is for terrorists to get in here. The borders must be sealed and they must be sealed now. Securing our borders is vital to our national security.

Yes, there are laws on the books for dealing with immigration, but officials are ignoring these laws, and it's an absolute sham.

This is an illegal immigration fiasco, and it must be fixed. This should be part of the number one priority of our next president; it should be right up inside the mix of securing the nation.

Solving the most important issues of the day

As your new President of these here wonderful United States of America, I would hereby propose that I, together with all Congressmen and all Senators, get together in a civilized manner and solve the most important issues facing our country right at this moment.

We must not toss out words of hatred, or words of blame, or any such words that do nothing but stymie progress. What we must do, in an orderly fashion, is sort out the issues of the day and discuss them one at a time. And, to solve these problems, we must all put forth our solutions, and we must listen to all the solutions and the evidence that is provided, and then we must debate these issues in the arena of ideas.

It will be difficult, but we must put aside our differences and talk. I know we all don't see eye to eye. I know it's a truth when I say that even most members of the same political party don't see eye to eye. Not seeing eye to eye, however, is a fact of humanity. Once we are aware of that, as we are now, we can progress.

Let us simply get together and debate the issues. And, at the end of the day or week or month or year, let us have a solution to each of these problems.

A solution means more than me getting my way or you getting your way. Most solutions do not come by that way. Most solutions come by by compromising. That means that I give a little and you give a little. Now this may not always be possible. I understand that sometimes I have to get my way or you have to get your way. As is the case, sometimes, for the better of the country, one of us has to step aside.

And when it is all said and done, and we have our solutions, we must support the people who enact new policies, and write new procedures, and enforce any new laws that are enacted. We must stand together not as Michiganders, or Texans, or New Yorkers, but as One Nation. We must Never bad mouth one another. We must never accuse one of lying without proof. We must not call each other names. We must be civil.

Yes, we can disagree. We can disagree so much that we hate one another, but that should never proceed into slander, for that type of behavior is not conducive to further progress. Once the nation is set forth in one direction, we must support our leaders regardless of whether or not we agree with them.

However, support is not the same as agreement. When we slander each other, we look frivolous as a nation, and that accomplishes nothing more than to weaken us not only in the eyes of our own Americans, but the eyes of other nations as well.

And if the policies we as a nation choose are not correct, if we make mistakes (as all people do), we must regroup and form new solutions and debate those in the arena of ideas. Most important: we must debate as gentlemen. Many times, that means being patient, and waiting for your time to come.

The most important issues of the day are the following, and in this order:

  1. Assuring that all Americans are safe from foreign invasion
  2. Providing a sound economic environment
  3. Assurance that our judges rule by the Constitution not by their opinion
  4. Improving the educational system
  5. Continuing to improve race relations within the United States
  6. Encouraging the spread of democracy world-wide
  7. Deciding how to deal with illegal immigrants, and helping Mexico improve its economy
  8. Improving relations with other nations and helping them prosper
  9. Continuing the struggle for peace in the Middle East

I prioritized this list according to the issues I think are most important to our nation today. Our politicians have been scratching at each other's throats regarding these issues, and progress has been slow. Well, it's time to speed things up.

As president, I would open my door and encourage anyone to come visit me who has a viable solution to any of these problems. We will meet somewhere in the middle.
